Initial training

All staff involved in delivery of intensive smoking cessation support must have received training to national standards for smoking cessation training. This is achieved through completing the NCSCT Online Training and Assessment programme for stop smoking practitioners as well as attending a one day face to face training commissioned by Public Health Warwickshire.

We also recommend colleagues complete the NCSCT training module on very brief advice on smoking (VBA).

New training

We are pleased to announce new dates for Level 1 and Level 2 smoking cessation training. Places available on a first come first served basis.

Virtual level one and two smoking cessation skills training and accreditation

Friday 22nd April 2022, 09.15AM - 16:45PM

Intensive One-to-One Interventions

In response to the current COVID 19 restrictions, we are pleased to be able to offer you a more flexible and accessible way of completing the Level 1 & 2 training and achieving your accreditation.

Smoking Cessation training aims to support stop smoking services and practitioners to provide high quality stop smoking interventions based on the most up-to-date evidence available. It is aimed at both practitioners who are newly appointed as well as those who are more experienced, as a refresher. Level 1 accreditation will equip you to offer very brief advice support and the Level 2 accreditation will allow you to offer more intensive one to one smoking cessation support in Warwickshire.

How will it work?

We will be providing an interactive one-day Microsoft Teams knowledge and skills training with access to some of the pre-recorded materials after the session (for revision purposes)

Please contact Sam Thomas via email: to register and book your slot for your accreditation session. Sam will then send you an agenda for the day and the Advisor Handbook

Refresher training

Stop smoking practitioners have to refresh their training every 2 years as per the specification.

They can do this by completing the NCSCT Online Training and Assessment programme for stop smoking practitioners (especially for those staff who originally attended the 2 day face to face training course)

Alternatively, practitioners may also attend a one day face to face training course to refresh their skills.
